Irish face Golden Bears in NCAA semifinals

UPDATE: The Irish season ended today as the team lost to Cal 4-2 in the NCAA semifinals.

Notre Dame won the doubles point to gain a 1-0 lead before Cal won four quick singles points. The only Notre Dame player to win in singles before the match was clinched was freshman Kristy Frilling, rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Irish win in NCAA regional

No. 25 Notre Dame defeated Cleveland State 3-1 in the opening round of an NCAA regional in Ann Arbor Friday.

Sophomore pitcher Jody Valdivia picked up the win, her first in an NCAA tournament game. She pitched three innings in relief of senior pitcher Brittany Bargar, who left the game after a rain delay.

NCAA first round LIVE: Maryland vs. Notre Dame

The Irish hope to keep their undefeated dream season alive against the Terrapins in former Notre Dame player Will Yeatman’s return to Notre Dame. At stake is a spot in the quarterfinals against either Syracuse or Siena next weekend.

Irish claim GWLL title

Thanks to a season-high six goals from senior attack Ryan Hoff, No. 2 Notre Dame beat Ohio State 16-7 and win their second consecutive conference championship.

The Irish finish the season 15-0, as the only undefeated team in Division I men’s lacrosse. They now await their fate in the NCAA Tournament. Pairings will be announced tonight at 9 p.m. on ESPNU and 10 p.m. on ESPN News. In all likelihood, the Irish will host a first-round game next weekend. Check back later tonight for updates on Notre Dame’s seed and opponent.

Becca Huffer takes Big East Freshmen of the Year honors

Becca Huffer was voted the women’s golf Big East Freshmen of the Year by the conference coaches last Thursday. Huffer was also one of four Irish golfers named to the eleven spots on the all Big East team. Joining Huffer with All-Big East honors were senior captain Lisa Maunu, junior Annie Brophy, and sophomore So-Hyun Park. The Irish tied with Big East Champion Louisville for the most spots on the All-Big East team with four.

The Irish finished second on the Big East Tournament on April 21 and qualified for the Ohio State Regional on May 7 as part of the NCAA Championship.
